Nelumbo nucifera, also known as the sacred lotus, symbolises the purity of heart and mind. It is a prominent figure in Buddhist, Hindu and Egyptian cultures. These images were inspired by American photographer Harry Callahan, who in the 1940's. photographed a body of work comprising images of grasses in the snow. The pictures were made in the ancient village of Xidi near Huangshan [Yellow Mountain] in Anhui Province, China in November while I was a guest at the Yixian International Photo Festival.
